West Hartford Town Hall

The town of West Hartford was incorporated in 1854. It is a large suburban community with all the cultural and commercial amenities of a metropolitan center and yet still has the charms of a small town. A wealth of diverse lifestyle possibilities and recreational and social activities make West Hartford an excellent choice for enjoyable family living.

An array of neighborhoods features some of the loveliest homes in Connecticut. Large stately houses, charming colonials, turn of the century Victorians, quaint capes, single story ranches, bungalows and impressive contemporaries dot the landscape and grace the tree-lined avenues of town. A variety of apartment complexes, condominium communities and pleasant multi-families are also found in town.

Professionals who work in Hartford enjoy an agreeable commute. West Hartford also has a thriving business, and down-center area of its own. West Hartford Center is a shoppers' and dinners' delight with scores of select shops, boutiques and top-notch restaurants. Bishops Corner, Corbins Corner, West Farms Mall and neighborhood establishments provide plenty of commercial activity.

West Hartford Center

Education and cultural enrichment are important aspects of life in West Hartford. A large public school system, which is highly rated, includes eleven elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. A strong academic curriculum is facilitated by modern buildings and state of the art equipment, and is complemented by advanced placement programs, special education and an extensive continuing education program. Private education, day care and nursery schools are also available. Higher education is well represented by a branch of the University of Connecticut, the University of Hartford with the Hartford Art School and Hart School of Music, St. Joseph's College and the renowned American School for the Deaf.

The home of Noah Webster

Numerous civic and social organizations, including an active community center, promote quality of life in town. The home of Noah Webster, author of America's first comprehensive dictionary, is a well-preserved museum, and the West Hartford Art League offers classes and exhibits at the Saltbox Gallery. The Children's Museum of Connecticut features the state's largest planetarium, nature exhibits with live animals, an aquarium and laser light shows.

The department of leisure services maintains excellent facilities of indoor and outdoor recreation, including beautiful parks in virtually every neighborhood, a skating rink and an aquatic center. The unspoiled lands of West Hartford Reservoir provide dense forests and lovely walking trails for the nature lover. West Hartford offers numerous choices to its residences in employment, housing, education, community services, leisure activities, shopping, restaurants, and much more. It's a great town to live in, work and play.

Real Estate Tips
Pricing >The Asking Price

Picture this...

Your house has been on the market for four weeks. There have been a lot of showings but no offers, so you are wondering if you should consider a price reduction. You want to get as much as you can for your home, but more importantly you want it to sell!

This may be the time to have a frank discussion with your real estate agent. While price may be a major factor, it may not be the only consideration. Are you making your house easy for agents to show? Have you completed the necessary maintenance and cleaning so that your property is as appealing as possible? Review with your agent the current market conditions and the prices of other homes in your neighborhood before determining that a price reduction is in order.

Even though your price may be competitive, the marketplace may be telling you that buyers just won't pay what you would like to get. If all indicators point to a price reduction, it is better to do it sooner rather than later.
